Today had a lot to offer for rap fans. On the one hand, Eminem dropped an album without notice (even if you don’t like him, listen to “Yah Yah” with Royce da 5’9″, Q-Tip and the incredible Black Thought) and also the posthumous Mac Miller album “Circles” was released, which again shows what a mature artist the prematurely deceased became. Last but not least the first joint album of Madlib and Oh No was released.
It’s quite remarkable that “The Professionals” is the first joint project after the two brothers have worked together multiple times over the years. The division of work is clear: Madlib produces the beats, Oh No is responsible for the raps and is supported by Elzhi, Chino XL and Adub.
Madlib keeps it very raw, sprinkling some more melodic samples in between and the soulful “I Jus Wanna” sounds as if Madlib’s brother from another other mother J Dilla had built the beat.
