After Kelly Finnigan released his great but widely overlooked solo album “The Tales People Tell” last year, he is now back as part of Monophonics.
“It’s Only Us” is the follow-up to the cover EP “Mirrors” and the first release with own songs since the “Sound Of Sinning” released in 2015. Monophonics still know how to write catchy soul songs but overall “It’s Only Us” is heavier and deeper.
On the one hand the album is musically more experimental and darker than previous releases and on the other hand they deal with topics like broken relationships, mental health issues, gun violence and power struggles.
Definitely one of the best soul groups of our time and I hope to see them live soon.
